ALLEN SHELLENBERGER, DRUMMER FOR PLATINUM ROCK BAND LIT, DIAGNOSED WITH MALIGNANT BRAIN TUMOR
Allen Shellenberger, 38 year-old drummer for Orange County rock band Lit, has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Lit made an initial announcement over their website on May 5th that a brain tumor had been discovered and the band was canceling their European tour dates with KISS. Biopsy results identified Shellenberger's cancer as malignant glioma. According to the National Cancer Institute, malignant glioma affects approximately 10,000 Americans per year. It is the same type of cancer Senator Edward M. Kennedy is battling. Allen's symptoms prior to diagnosis included numbness and tingling in the left side of his body.
Shellenberger is under the care of world-renowned neurosurgeons Dr. Hunt and Dr. Black at the Cedars-Sinai Maxine Dunitz Neurosurgical Institute where he is pursuing radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Despite the news, Allen is in good spirits and committed to the fight.
Lit, who has been both a brotherhood and a band for over 20 years, has enjoyed multi-platinum success and chart-topping singles including "My Own Worst Enemy," "Miserable," and others. After two decades together the band continues to write, record and tour. "Allen's young and healthy and if anyone has a chance to beat this, it's him," says Lit guitarist Jeremy Popoff. "As sad and scared as we all are, we're standing by him and staying positive. We're going to fight this together."

» The "Iron" Mike Report": Hey Fans! Wanted to give ya a little scoop as I went down and visited the guys for a couple days last week. First off, all the guys are doing fantastic and the excitement and energy of actually getting the ball rolling for the new CD was awesome. So far the band has just gotten their feet wet with producer Josh Abraham and one demo song was in the can. Got to listen to it at Rodney's and WOW! Don't know if it's a song that will make the album but it was very good and modern sounding. Mark surprised me with one of his vocal parts that went "out of the box" for him and it ruled! The chorus is still stuck in my head. We should all be excited cause there is some real positive vibe going into the CD as well as others wanting to help! We'll keep that little secret underwraps. Murphy will be reporting from the studio and he's always filming etc. Most of that stuff will be geared towards the SugarRayFanClub.com website. » The news is here! We've signed a new record deal with Pulse Recordings with world-wide distribution through Fontana/Universal and will enter the studio May 19th to start writing/recording/demoing new material for the CD to be released hopefully by years-end! Producing the new cd will be Josh Abraham! He's one of the foremost rock producers in the industry, Abraham's resume includes over 50 million records sold worldwide with bands like Velvet Revolver, Staind, Limp Bizkit. Abraham has also recently produced albums for Slayer, Atreyu, The Panic Channel, 30 Seconds to Mars, Pink, Courtney Love, and Elliott Yamin. » What's up SR fans! We've appreciated the many (actually tons) of messages to us demanding more new music or in short, a new CD. We wanted to post a message just explaining that whatever you've read elsewhere in the press the translation of what we really say is never skewed here. So to be straight and to the point on a new CD, we've said that working on the new 2007 track "Into Yesterday" for the "Surf's Up" movie was so much fun that we discussed about continuing to write more songs in that manner and in a perfect world have some songs for release in 2008, be it on a new label, my space, etc. Hope that clarifies any miscommunications you've read elsewhere but we felt we need to let all you fans know.
In other news, Rodney Sheppard is featured in the new Scooter World Magazine this month! Subfest begins on Wednesday July 4 and runs through July 8 at the Naval Submarine Base, off Route 12 in Groton. Hootie and the Blowfish had been scheduled to perform in concert Wednesday night, but the group announced today that it was postponing its upcoming shows because lead singer Darius Rucker has a staph infection in his left knee. But Subfest itself goes on, with last minute addition of Sugar Ray and Better Than Ezra performing instead of Hootie on Wednesday. The festivities, complete with carnival rides and more, will run from 3 to 11 p.m. Wednesday; 5-11 p.m. July 5 and 6; 3-11 p.m. July 7; and 1-6 p.m. July 8. Admission is $4. There will be fireworks at 9:30 p.m. July 7.
